The LINK Experience
LINK is an incredible opportunity offered by Animas High School where students get the chance to go on a 3-week internship at just about any commercial or industrial location that they aspire. As a junior, I took mine at a professional animation company.
I worked at Medical 3D Animation- an animation company that creates short simulations of medical procedures that they then sell to hospitals or medical research facilities to train doctors. Website: medical3danimationcompany.com
For my simulation, I created a short simulation that displays the process of braces being installed; I designed it so an orthodontist could play it in his/her waiting room. It was a simple 30-second short that I designed, constructed, rendered, and edited using Blender and Adobe Premiere.

Reflection
LINK was one of the most insightful experiences I've ever went through. Going in, I knew I would have a lot of skills to bring the production process, such things that would help me achieve a moderate degree of quality in production. However, I was very fortunate to learn what I had misinterpreted and what I done out of order. I learned more of the specific and minor details of production and the many "branchlets I had yet to bear from my greater branches". Some of these important lessons and details I had not learned until the end, which, to my loss, kept me from being successful in the beginning. I knew from the beginning that I want to be in the visualization industry, but I had yet to realize how many "guys" there were in the process of production; I now know for sure which ones I really want to be, and which ones I definitely don't want to be. I believe that Medical 3D would be a great place for visualization-aspiring students in the future, and I hope the future interns will learn some of the important lessons I did- dig deeper, pick your part, and never be overconfident. Now that I have completed this internship, I intend next to narrow down what kinds of courses will be most useful for the overall career that intend to pursue, retake the SAT, hopefully get into a prestigious visualization college, and begin to spread my talent and power in the many ways I can.
